Hanging Out

San Juan after dark is HOT! Its eclectic mix of Afro-Caribbean beats, hip-hop and disco rhythms keeps everyone moving until dawn. The clubs go all out to put together special events, theme parties and feature famous international guest DJs to keep the scene ratcheted up. It all starts heating up around 11 pm, but getting dressed to turn heads starts well before that. San Juan’s after-dark fashion is as thrilling as the intoxicating rhythms.

Here are a few suggestions to get you going in San Juan after dark. Check the directories for a comprehensive listing of club information for your area including type of club, location and phone numbers.

Club Babylon
This lively disco is a favorite among locals and tourists. The DJ keeps the dance floor pulsing with hip-hop, top 40, house, and techno as the emcee stirs up the crowd. The multilevel venue caters to different age groups, depending on the night. Thursday 18+, Friday 21+, Saturday 23+, Wyndham El San Juan Hotel, Isla Verde.

Liquid & Wet
You have a choice of two fantastic spots at the Water Club. The chic Liquid attracts an elegant 23-and-older crowd. On Friday and Saturday nights the DJ heats things up with a variety of music, including house. Wet, which features the unique concept “Beds in Heaven” attracts beautiful people to lounge on sofas and beds and enjoy the spectacular view of the Isla Verde Beach from this sexy rooftop venue. Sushi is served until 2 am. The Water Club, Isla Verde.

Moorings
This casual locale boasts three different ambiances: an open-air terrace, a gazebo, and a bar/restaurant area with dance floor. The DJ keeps the place thundering Tuesday – Saturday nights with a variety of retro and dance tunes. Daily happy hour starts at 5:30 pm. The kitchen serves until 1am. Moorings, Condado.

Óleo
Inspired by the latest European trend, this hip lounge is the place for Sanjuaneros to see and be seen. Its newly refurbished VIP room, called the Black Room, boasts, you guessed it, an all black decor. Óleo features local DJs as well as DJs from the States and Europe. Be sure to enjoy some of the great sushi. Óleo, Old San Juan.

Lava
Lava is as hot as its name implies. Its artwork, decor and intoxicating atmosphere draws a swank fashion crowd. Famed DJs get the dance floor sizzling with progressive, house, and electronic beats. Doors open at 10 pm Tuesday – Saturday. Lava, Old San Juan.

Spybar
After 2 am, this martini lounge is your late-night alternative. Go with the vanguard mix of one of the the Island’s best DJs as you settle in with an exotic-flavored martini, such as chocolate or key lime. This place is so trendy it doesn’t need a sign. Spybar, Condado.
